I think that is it more habit than anything else that causes people to be upset. You were challenging the cultural norms and that ALWAYS makes people uneasy at first. I virtually never drive anymore--riding, running, or walking everywhere I need to go. We've save so much money (and resources) by not each having one. I am also more fit. It makes me happy.
